The representatives of the Security Forces as well as employees of public administration and local government bodies received Medals of Merit for transmission system security from
the ČEPS Company. It was already the sixth time that the Ball Game Hall of Prague Castle held the ceremony.
The award is an expression of acknowledgement of extraordinary contribution and exemplary
long-term cooperation in protection of electric transmission system. Medals are awarded mostly to the members of the Czech Army and the Integrated Rescue System (notably the Czech Police and Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic); however, every year, the awarded also include employees of various authorities, for their contribution to dealing with crisis management.
“During the several years when we have met with members of these forces at various drills,
we have jointly tried many different types of situations. The fact that now the practice of the police, firefighters and others include the principles of critical infrastructure protection is both beneficial and complimentary for us,” says Jan Kalina, Chairman of the Board of ČEPS, a.s.
The transmission system operator is an important subject of both Czech and European critical infrastructures. Reliable operation of the transmission network must be guaranteed 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. The trouble-free operation requires also emergency training. Therefore,
a security drill SAFEGUARD took place at the Kletné substation in October, in order to test
the cooperation with the Army of the Czech Republic in a simulated security emergency state, during which soldiers guarded facilities of the transmission system operator. Furthermore, a counter-terrorism drill TERROR 2016 took place at the main dispatching center. According to its scenario, the attackers managed to penetrate the dispatching center, where they took hostages and threatened to destroy the transmission network.
The ČEPS Medals of Merit for Security are awarded in three degrees – gold, silver and bronze.
These categories represent the extent of merits and acknowledgement.
