We organise student competitions

ČEPS announced on 8 September 2011 the first annual “Thesis 2012 – ČEPS Award” competition. The competition is aimed at supporting tertiary education, enhancing the attractiveness of the energy and power sectors and supporting promising students.

An award will be presented to the student in each category who submits the best thesis as assessed by a commission consisting of ČEPS experts. The overall level of the thesis, the originality of the approach in terms of addressing the given topic and the potential practical benefits will be assessed.

 

Categories and topics:

Electrical energy topics:

  • Load flow calculation for power systems with wind plants;
  • Conductor warming – the impact of weather and load;
  • Checking the dynamic safety of the power system operational situation;
  • Cooperation on the development of a transmission system model for real-time dispatch control;
  • Detection of fault locations in the power network by means of the synchronous measurement of phasor voltage;
  • Optimisation of continuous corrective measures (redispatching) as part of power system security control;
  • Optimisation of discreet corrective measures (reconfiguration) as part of power system security control;
  • Monitoring of voltage stability.

 

Economic topics:

  • Variants regarding transmission system development funding from external sources;
  • Development of European electricity market integration;
  • Analysis of interrelations between electric power prices, ancillary services and regulation energy prices, and CO2 and commodity prices.

 

Legal topics:

  • Rights to third-party property with respect to the power sector;
  • Power facility protection zones;
  • User rights with respect to the power sector;
  • Legal status of licence holders with respect to the power sector;
  • Legal nature of international energy associations;
  • Act on supported energy resources.

 

The prize for the winner of each category will amount to CZK 10 000. The competition awards ceremony will take place on 14 September 2012.

The competition is open to all students who intend to defend their theses during the 2011/2012 academic year.
