Established in 1923, the World Energy Council (WEC) is an international association based in London and is engaged in energy-related research and development, international studies, regional and technical programmes concerned with energy source procurement and the development of energy production, transfer, transmission, distribution and use.

The Czech Member Committee of WEC was established in 1993 as a national association comprising companies, organisations and firms in the coal, gas, electricity and heat sectors including supply, research, study and consulting organisations and technical universities.

The position of the Czech Member Committee Chairman is held by an employee of ČEPS and the Company is responsible for the smooth functioning of the WEC Czech Secretariat. The Czech Member Committee is responsible for:

  • the organisation of cooperation with WEC headquarters in London and the involvement of Czech experts in WEC international working and study teams (Global Studies and WEC Europe);
  • involvement, as an independent expert partner, in the updating process of the “Czech State Energy Policy”;
  • the issuing of expert reports and publications concerning the Czech energy sector;
  • cooperation with other WEC National Member Committees, primarily those in Central Europe.
